The Big Weekend
March 21st – 23rd 2014 was a memorable weekend, as we marked 50 years of Rathkeale College.
To celebrate this significant milestone we joined forces with St Matthew’s Collegiate who celebrated its Centenary. Promoted as The Big Weekend, celebrating a combined 150 years, both schools hosted separate programmes, joining together on the Saturday evening for a marquee Ball at St Matthew’s Collegiate – The Westpac Trinity Ball.
Located at each school site, a weekend full of activities and events provided a unique opportunity for Old Boys to reconnect and relive fond memories.
Jubilee Quad Project
Thirty metres of tiles, each etched with student names since 1964, combined with a series of low walls and convivial seating, has transformed the Rathkeale College quad for all to enjoy. The focal point of the area is four wooden pillars representing the concept of a “Good Rathkeale Man”. These have been developed to build on the values that were established by the founding headmaster E J Norman, who said that he “intended to build a school, step by step … boy by boy, virtue by virtue”.
Principal Willy Kersten, with ROBA President, Andy Sutherland with the first tiles listing the founding students of Rathkeale.
