The Old Boys’ Association
The Old Boys’ Association was founded very early in the College’s history and exists as one of the College’s significant support groups. The Association works to the advantage of the Old Boys’ community, the school and the students.
Boys may enrol as members of the Association when they leave the College at the end of their schooling. This usually takes place at an end of year function attended by members of the Old Boys’ Executive. The enrolment fee paid when a boy commences at Rathkeale is transferred to the Old Boys as life membership of the Association. Over the years the Old Boys have made many significant contributions to the College. The provision of the College gates, the Squash Court, the Players’ Pavilion on the Oval and the Old Boys’ Common Room/Staff Room are perhaps the most notable. However, collectively and individually, Old Boys continually seek to advance the well-being of Rathkeale.
Social Occasions
The Association seeks to reconnect Old Boys with the College and with each other. To that end social functions are important and held on a regular basis. After match functions often coincide with major sports events. Annual gatherings are held in Masterton, Wellington and Auckland. Whilst larger events such as reunions and Balls also feature. An annual cricket match pitches the Old Boys against the current boys. This activity is expected to further develop with the creation of an Old Boys’ Social Cricket Club in 2016. Other developments for the Association in 2016 will hopefully include the development of regional Old Boys’ groups in Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Melbourne, London and within New Zealand Universities. There is also a very strong intent to formalize Ten Years On and Thirty Years On reunions led by key people in the relevant year group. The Association and the College will offer all assistance possible to facilitate such gatherings.

Communication
The Rock Runner is the Association’s magazine which is available on the website for all Old Boys. We notify all those with current email addresses that it is available. Hard copies can be requested. The Editor is always eager to receive advice and stories that may be of interest to other Old Boys. In addition, the Association will seek to keep in touch with Old Boys via email on a regular basis and via the occasional newsletter. There is also an Old Boys’ Facebook page which is currently managed by Blair Ewington. To ensure Old Boys are kept updated it is essential that contact details are current and up to date.
