The Tu Tangata programme started at Rathkeale in 2011 and has proved very successful.
The programme is intended to empower students with opportunities for responsibility, leadership and service. Blended groups of 12 seniors and juniors meet bi-weekly and each senior is given the opportunity to exercise responsibility for junior students.
Service tasks achieved by the Tu Tangata groups include:
- fundraising for Tokelau
- footwear collection on behalf of Rotary for the Islands
- firewood collection and distribution for the Cancer Society
A number of new initiatives emerge yearly.
